Allowing users to change their own Active Directory password
A common problem especially for remote users that do not log directly in to a domain joined workstation is giving them the ability to change their Active Directory password. Our Active Directory web-based tool called Directory Update will allows users to change their password *if* they know their password. This is similar to an Active Directory password reset except that to change the password the user must know their password.
The user must choose a password that meets your domain’s password complexity. However, using the settings in the PasswordSettings.XML file, you can further increase the complexity of the password.
Depending on your internal Active Directory replication interval, the password will replicate to all domain controllers in your organization within 15 to 30 minutes. If you use Microsoft 365 and you replicate your Active Directory to Entra Id (formerly Azure Active Directory), then the password change should replicate to Azure within about 30 minutes.
